I’ve come to realize…

31 May, 2008 (12:56pm) | I've come to realize... | 3 comments

I’ve come to realize that when I talk I spew.

I have trouble just shutting up and letting things be. Part of that is that I am always explaining myself so that people understand me, but sometimes that just gets me into more trouble than I am already in. The problem is that I’m oblivious, and I know it. Too many times, I’ve found out a month after I say something that someone took it to mean I hated them, or I was mocking them when I totally wasn’t. By now, I’ve learned to at least attempt to clarify anything I say before someone misunderstands it, but therein lies the problem.

Can someone teach me how to shut up?

Multiple Choice Friday

30 May, 2008 (1:31am) | Multiple Choice Friday | 5 comments

Hey, guys! How’s it going? I want to get to know you peeps a little more. So, from now on, every Friday I will post a multiple choice question. There are no wrong answers, because it will always be opinion based questions. Unless you diss on coffee. Don’t do it. Punk.

What is your perfect Day-Off Breakfast?

A) Classic. (Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, etc.)

B) Healthy. (Fruit, healthy shakes, etc.)

C) Random. (Cold pizza, quesadilla, sandwich, soup, etc.)

D) Just Coffee.

E) None.

EDIT: F) Other. (Feel free to add your own opinion.)

Mine is A. The Classic. Nothing beats a good hearty home-cooked, fat-filled meal. For the record, I like to fry things in olive oil. Eggs fried in olive oil, topped with lots of pepper… Mmmm, boy…

On most days though, my breakfast is D. Just Coffee. ;)

Praise God for misunderstandings

This morning, I went to get coffee from the Starbucks across the street from my work. I ordered a Triple Tall Breve Latte.

Now before I continue with my story, let me just say how annoying Starbucks can be.

The word “Latte” is Italian for milk, right? So, a Cafe Latte is espresso and milk. Make sense? And a Cafe Breve has half and half instead of milk. So what is a Breve Latte supposed to be? Milk with half and half? Well, that’s what Starbucks seems to think a Breve is supposed to be called. I always go there and say “I’ll get a tall breve.” To which the response is usually, “Latte”. I learned pretty quick to just humor them and say yes. But for a while I would be like, “No, I don’t want 2% in it, I want half and half. Cafe Breve”. Punks.

Anyway, that’s my rant. Oh blah dee, oh blah da, life goes on.

So, I ordered a “Triple Tall Breve Latte”, but they made me a “Triple Tall Vanilla Latte”. Oops. Needless to say I scored a free drink. I’m lovin’ that.

I’ve come to realize…

28 May, 2008 (10:38am) | I've come to realize... | 1 comment

I’ve come to realize that my cell phone is the axis around which my life spins.

Now, in my defense, it isn’t all about people being able to get a hold of me. I get maybe 1-2 calls per day. The big thing is the internet. I have a Blackberry Pearl, so I can do a lot more than just text in my spare time. I can answer emails, surf the web, check out comments on my blog (not that I get that many, but all the more reason to know right away when I do!), read other blogs, IM people, update Twitter… the list goes on. And I am officially addicted to it.

It’s pretty sad. If I accidentally leave my phone in my car, I break into a cold sweat. One time, I left my phone at home when I went to work, and when from nine to five without having the darn thing!

I’m pitiful aren’t I?

How about you? Are you addicted to your phone? Maybe I should start up a Cellphones Anonymous Group.. (“Hello, my name is Bob and it has been two hours since I last saw my phone.”)

This post is part of a series I am doing called “I’ve come to realize…“.

I like to procrastinate

26 May, 2008 (3:51pm) | Blog | 1 comment

Today is the last day of my uber-long weekend. I had been originally planning on actually accomplishing something important, but as we all know, plans like that never really work. Why does this always happen? I’ve been planning on doing this stuff for months, but every time I get the chance, I find something better to do. Like look at lolcats.

Is there anyone else out there like this that has found a way to motivate yourself to accomplish things?

Automatic Smile Detector

24 May, 2008 (1:37pm) | Blog | No comments

So I discovered the other day that My Sisters camera has a setting on it called “Automatic Smile Detector” or something similar. What happens is you take a picture, but it waits to actually take it until it detects the person smiling. Holy Cow it was the funniest thing in the world. We stood around for hours taking pictures of.. well, mostly just me. It was funny, I’d stand there glaring at the camera, and the really quickly smile like a dork. *click*

Here is a slide show for you enjoyment. Please note that every single expression in there is completely retarded.

The music was written by my best friend and I about three years ago.

P.S. I also found a really cool (and nerdy) usage of the smile detection technology that somebody made.

Normally I work with about 5-7 coworkers on any given day, but lately everyone has been skipping out. One person moved 3 hours away, another had a baby, others are in New York, inexplicably.. and today my last remaining coworker is on vacation. So I am officially all alone at work.

At work alone, actually

It’s kinda weird. I’m used to there being activity and talking going on all day.. but to just sit and code all day with no interruptions… I think I might go nuts.

I’ve come to realize…

22 May, 2008 (8:05pm) | I've come to realize... | 1 comment

I’ve come to realize that I need motivation to write blog posts.

So I decided to start a series. It’s going to be called “I’ve come to realize”, based on a survey(or a couple surveys) that have questions like this:

I have come to realize that work:
I’ve come to realize that my cell phone is:
I’ve come to realize that when I talk:
I’ve come to realize that if I love someone:

Most people just finish each sentence and leave it at that, but I am going to see if I can’t elaborate on each statement enough to write a whole post.

I probably can’t.

function Song( $bottles = 99 )
   $lyrics = "";
   while( $bottles >= 1 )
      $lyrics .= $bottles . " bottles of beer on the wall!\n";
      $lyrics .= $bottles . " bottles of beer!\n";
      $lyrics .= "Take one down, pass it around,\n";
      $lyrics .= $bottles . " bottles of beer on the wall!\n\n";
   return $lyrics;
echo Song();
